In 2001, Canada became the first country to approve cannabis for medical use. This June, the Canadian Senate will embrace the winds of change once again, approving a nationwide legalization plan to be implemented in the near future. Under the new C-45 bill, also known as The Cannabis Act, recreational marijuana will be legalized for adult use. This means those over 18 (or 19) years old are permitted to grow up to four plants and possess up to 30 grams of cannabis for their own use.

Canada will be the first G7 member to legalize recreational marijuana and is expected to make approximately $5 billion a year in tax revenue by the start of the next decade.
